Professional Experience
Since January, 2000, a freelance Marine Surveyor representing Acacia Services.
1999 - Marine surveyor for all Israeli ports acting on behalf of the P&I representatives, Ship owners, Charterers, Insurance Companies ,and private clients.
1996 - 1998 Engaged as Hull Superintendent of the new building series of 8 container vessels at HDW shipyards in Kiel, Germany.
During 1997, attained a Graduation Certificate, with Distinction, of P& 1 Insurance, granted by the North of England Protection and Indemnity Association and South Tyneside College.
1995 - Appointed by Zim Navigation Co., as company Marine Safety Superintendent.
1994 - Qualified as Master F.G.
1990 - Qualified as Senior Officer.
1989 - Qualified as Senior Watch Keeping Officer.
1986 - Qualified as Watch Keeping Officer.
1981 - Joined the Israeli merchant marine as a deck cadet, serving on general cargo, multi purpose, timber , bulk carriers and container vessels of Zim Israel Navigation Co. LTD.

AZARIA ALON - "Mr. Environment"
Azaria Alon was born on November 15, 1918 in Wollodarsk, Ukraine and has lived in Israel since 1925. He is married to Ruth Alon (nee Diamant) and has 2 sons and 1 daughter.
Since 1938, Azaria has been a member of Kibbutz Beit Hashita. He has been an agricultural worker, a youth movement leader, an educator and teacher of biology. In 1951, he became one of the founders of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), which is now a leading power in Environmental campaigns in Israel. He took a major part in the campaign to save the wild flowers of Israel (since 1964- )
He has also been active in creating the Governmental Nature Reserves Authority (a member of its board from 1964-1976); mapping the nature reserves and national parks of Israel (1951-1965); numerous campaigns to save the wild life and environment; General Secretary of SPNI from 1969-1977; taking a major part in education, especially in creating the network of Field Study Centers; the editor of SPNI publications; member of Life & Environment; taking part in the Stockholm Convention in 1972 and IUCN conferences from 1963-1990.
Since 1951, Azaria has been writing, lecturing and broadcasting on conservation of Nature and Environment, in an effort to raise the public conscience towards those subjects (he has had less success in persuading decision makers......)
MAJOR PUBLICATIONS BY AZARIA ALON
Hundreds of articles in daily papers, periodicals, etc. on nature, environment and conservation, since 1951.
He has authored 30 books on nature and environment, mainly:
8 books on flowers and trees (Hebrew), 2 in Arabic and 2 in English
3 books on the Sinai and Israel's deserts (Hebrew)
3 books on landscape and animals (Hebrew) and 1 in English
3 books on environmental education (Hebrew) and 1 in Arabic
7 children books on plants and animals
1 guide book on nature trails in Israel.
Numerous booklets and brochures.
Editor of the "Encyclopedia of Plant and Animal Life of Israel" (12 volumes, over 3,600 pp., texts written by prominent scientists, fully illustrated) and a shortened version (3 volumes).
Nature and landscape photography - more than 1000 photographs published in and books and papers.
A Radio Program - "The Landscape of our Country" - 5 minutes twice a week since 1959 (over 2100 broadcasts) on different items of nature, landscape, environment and conservation.
Senior Lecturer on landscape at the Technion College, Haifa (1992- )
