Over the years, talented members of Kibbutz Beit Hashita have
established many special industries that provide practical
outlets for their special abilities, while providing a cultural
and financial benefit to the community as a whole. Cottage
industries manufacture a variety of unique, high quality products
for sale both within the Kibbutz and on the outside market.
A good example of Beit Hashita's cottage industries is the HASHITA FURNITURE SHOP, which was established fifty years ago to specially design sturdy, long lasting furniture for kibbutz families. Over the years, the furniture shop developed a singular style, combing the elegance of traditional Israeli furniture with the simplicity of the original kibbutz design. Artisans of the furniture shop also recreate ornamental religious artifacts that can be found in many synagogues throughout Israel.
The creative capacity of the HASHITA
ARTS & CRAFTS CENTER is exemplified by FRIKI style
of charicatures popular among Israelis of all ages. The Arts and
Crafts Center works in a wide variety of artistic mediums and
media, including sculpture, ceramics and numerous styles of
painting. The subject of many works coming out of the Center is
Israel, the land and its people. Works of many of our Members have
been shown in galleries in Israel, France and the United States.
RONI FLOWERS is another popular cottage industry, specializing in colorful artificial flower arrangements. Roni's originality has kept her arrangements in great demand for over a decade.
HASHITA JEWELRY has been producing unique, high quality jewelry for many years. Hashita rings, broaches earrings and chains are known for their individuality and charm.
HASHITA COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE is a company that supplies computer hardware and software to the northern region of Israel. Its duplicating department duplicates some of the most popular Hebrew based programs, especially learning tools and games used in educational programs across the country. HASHITA CONTACTLESS RF SMART CARDS were developed to bring the kibbutz cashless society into the 21st century, without breaking away from fundamental kibbutz values. Since a kibbutz member has no bank account, and his day to day financial activities take place without cash or wallet, Hashita Smart Cards were developed as an all-purpose card for use on the kibbutz. The cards are used for punching in and out of work, making purchases in the shops, paying for meals in the communal dining room and for using kibbutz cars. 20,000 cards are already being used by members of kibbutzim, from ages 6 to 100 years old. kibbutz businesses, as well as for many other Israeli companies.
