Adoptive families are a unique and important part of the American Class
program at Kibbutz Beit Hashita. Two weeks after their arrival in Israel,
each student is matched with a kibbutz family. This "adoption" is the
beginning of a special relationship, where the student finds a welcome
home to spend time in, and the family gains a new member to share their
kibbutz life with.
Kibbutz families participating in the program vary with regard to the number of children and the age of children and parents. Most families have members that speak fluent English, but American Class students often find that the quality time they spend with their adoptive family is also the perfect time to practice their Hebrew.
For American Class students, having adoptive parents, brothers and sisters provides a home away from home with all the warmth of family life.
